Silvia MassarelliBiographySilvia Massarelli was born in Rome, where she studied piano, composition and conducting at the Academy of Music “ Santa Cecilia”; afterwards she moved to Paris where she studied conducting at the “Conservatoir National Superieur de Musique” graduating with an unanimous First Prize. Winner of a scholarship by the French government along with the prestigious Nadia and Lili Boulanger Foundation and the Societé Generale, Silvia Massarelli was appointed Music Director of the Ensemble International de Paris, with musicians from all over the world.
At the same time she took part at the Bach International Piano Competition winning the First Prize absolute and playing as soloist at the Salle Gaveau. As conductor she won the International Conducting Competition “ Robert Blot” in Paris and the Special Critics Prize at the Prokofiev International Conducting Competition in San Petersbourg, president of the jury Yuri Temirkanov; subsequently she won the “Grand Prix de Direction d’Orchestre”, first woman in the world, at the Besançon International Young Conductor Competition , president of the jury Manuel Rosenthal. Silvia Massarelli was assistant conductor of Laurent Petit-Girard in the opera Werther by Massenet at the Opéra Comique in Paris, assistant conductor of M. W. Chung in the opera Simon Boccabegra by Verdi at the Opera Bastille in Paris, as well as assistant of Vladimir Delmann in Tchaikovsky Symphony in Moscow. Her repertory ranges from ‘700 to contemporary music : she conducted world first by numerous composer like Edison Denisov and Lowell Liebermann, and she participated at the Nordic Days Musical Festival in Rejkiavik, exclusively dedicated to contemporary music.
